Kiddles' Gloriumptious Day with Dahl

YEAR 3 KIDDLES HAVE A GLORIUMPTIOUS DAY WITH DAHL

Denmark Street Class had a wonderful day when they visited Great Missenden, the home of the late Roald Dahl.

First we toured the village seeing many of the locations that inspired settings in Dahl's famous stories.  We saw the library where Matilda read books whilst her mother played bingo, the petrol pumps that Danny's father used at his garage and the orphanage where the BFG found Sophie.  We also saw the Great Missenden post office which used to receive 4,000 letters a week for Dahl when he was alive and the butcher's shop where Dahl liked to shop and collect bones for his dog Chopper.

After a tour of the village we made our way up Church Lane to the Church of St Peter and Paul where we followed the special BFG footprints, hidden in the grass, to the Roald Dahl memorial bench and  his grave.

After lunch it was time for our visit to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.  We were welcomed to the centre by Helen who gave us a very informative talk about Roald Dahl and let us in on some secrets about his life.

Next there was a chance to visit the museum galleries, sniff the chocolate walls and look inside Dahl's writing hut which was moved to the museum after his death.   We all enjoyed the Story Centre where we were able to dress up as book characters, create our own funny face characters and have a go at some stop motion animation.

Just before we left Helen, who had been very impressed by our behaviour, helped us design our own chocolate bar for Roald Dahl.  Before boarding the coach home we had a chance to play at the park where the zip wire was a big hit with everyone.
