Hampton Court - Life in Tudor Times

On Monday 11th November, Year 5 travelled to Hampton Court Palace to learn what life was like in Tudor times.

As it was Remembrance Day, the children participated in a short service and listened to the buguler playing the last post. They were very respectful during the two minutes silence.

Then we explored Henry VIII’s apartments. Mrs Scragg was our knowledgeable tour guide and we learnt some secret facts about eaves droppers and hidden messages in the stone carvings.

The Tudor kitchens were enormous – over 1,200 people could have feasted in the Great Hall, as 200 servants would have worked next to the huge open fires.

The afternoon workshop helped us learn about Tudor fun and games. We played knucklebones, boules and even tried jousting (without the horses or lances!)

Tudor History came to life as Year 5 explored the grounds and the buildings of Hampton Court Palace. Now we understand what life as Henry VIII would have been like.
