Year 6 Start of Spring Term
Year 6 have started off their final January of primary school with energy and excitement. In reading, we are beginning a new book entitled The Tiger Rising, by Kate DiCamillo. This story focuses on incredible events that bring two unlikely personalities together in a common goal. We are very enthusiastic to find out what it means for the tiger to be rising.
In writing, we have finished our scaffolded write about Winston in Feast and are ready to show what we know in our independent writing. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this unit and our new method of learning to write. We can’t wait to see how our original pieces turn out.
In maths, we are looking at fractions, fractions and more fractions. This will translate over into decimals and percentages as well, as we investigate the numerous ways in which quantities of less than one whole are expressed.
In science we are continuing with our learning in evolution. We are now starting to delve into genetic variation and why we don’t look exactly like our parents. We will go on to study how these variations can lead to positive survival characteristics, which lead to adaptation to various environmental phenomenon. As part of our study of variation, we decided to cross different dog breeds based upon their inherited characteristics in order to create a new breed! Be sure to check out what we’ve created!
