English
English/Literacy is a fundamental life skill; it develops the children's ability to communicate effectively, to listen, speak, read and write for a wide range of purposes. A child needs an environment rich in language to develop successfully.
Children should be given the skills to express themselves creatively and imaginatively as they become enthusiastic and critical readers of stories, poetry, drama as well as non-fiction and media texts.
All children should be taught the skills which support them to become effective writers using the application of correct grammar, spelling conventions and taught vocabulary. Opportunities for writing should exist throughout the curriculum and all elements of English should immerse the children on a daily basis.
