School Meals
School meals are available for all children everyday. The meals are cooked on site by our caterers, Chartwells. We firmly believe that the price of school lunches represents value for money and provides a healthy, well balanced meal.

We are pleased to offer school meals to all our pupils, with various options available depending on eligibility:
Free School Meals
- Reception, Year 1, and Year 2: All children in these year groups receive a free and nutritious lunch through the Universal Free School Meals Programme.
- Years 3 to 6: Children in these year groups may also receive free school meals if they meet the eligibility criteria listed below.
For children who are not eligible for free meals, school lunches can be purchased or a packed lunch from home may be provided.
Meal Cost (from 1st September)
- The cost of a school lunch will increase by 10 pence.
- The new price will be £2.70 per meal.
About Our School Meals
- Meals are freshly prepared on-site each day by our caterers, Chartwells.
- We offer Chartwells’ 'Gold Food for Life Menus', which have been awarded the highest accreditation in the school meals sector.
- GLF believes this continues to represent excellent value for money, providing children with a healthy, well-balanced meal each day.
Eligibility for Free School Meals
Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after stopping Working Tax Credit)
- Universal Credit (if applied on or after 1 April 2018, household income must be less than £7,400 a year after tax, excluding any benefits)

Special Diets
- If your child has a medical need for a special diet our caterers, Chartwells, have nutritionists who can work with you to accommodate this. Details of this support can be found here: The Chartwells Approach to Medical Diets | Chartwells and the School Office can support you with an application.
- For information on allergens and special diets please contact Chartwells at chartwells.medicaldiets@compass-group.co.uk.
- Please let the school know any dietary requirements your child may have.
If you wish to provide a packed lunch for your child, please note:
- Do not include sweets of any kind.
- No fully coated chocolate bars/biscuits.
- Fizzy drinks must not be brought into school.
- No glass bottles or cans please.
Severe food allergies
Could we please remind you that we have children in the school with serious food allergies. The following foods should not be brought into school under any circumstances:
- any variety of nut
- mango
- passion fruit
- papaya
- guava
- star fruit
Please check ingredients on chocolate bars, chocolate spread, cereal bars and cakes to ensure no nut products are brought into school.
Please check ingredients on fruit drinks to check they do not include any of the tropical fruits listed above.
