What Will Children Learn This Year?

Year 2 strengthens understanding of number and introduces multiplication, division, and fractions. Children also explore measurement and geometry.

Autumn Term

  • Addition & Subtraction: Bridging 10 and working with two-digit numbers.
  • Multiplication: Equal groups and commutativity.
  • Division: Sharing and grouping.

Spring Term

  • Times Tables: Focus on 2, 5, and 10.
  • Geometry: Properties of shape.
  • Money: Recognising coins and solving money problems.

Summer Term

  • Fractions: Halves and quarters.
  • Measurement: Length, mass, capacity, and temperature.
  • Time: Reading clocks and understanding days and months.

How You Can Help at Home

  • Practice counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s.
