GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Character Compass

Character Compass: Our Values in Action

At Windmill Primary School, our Character Compass guides everything we do. It points us toward the qualities that shape confident learners and responsible citizens:

  • Respect – We treat everyone with kindness and fairness, valuing differences and caring for our shared environment.
  • Curiosity – We ask questions, explore new ideas, and embrace learning as a lifelong journey.
  • Ambition – We aim high, persevere through challenges, and believe in our ability to achieve great things—academically and personally.
  • Community – We work together, support one another, and make a positive difference—locally and globally.

These values are not just words on a page—they are lived experiences for our pupils, every day.

The Badge Challenge: Bringing Our Values to Life

To make our Character Compass tangible and motivating, pupils take part in the Badge Challenge. Each of the four values has a corresponding badge with five meaningful tasks that can be completed in school or at home. Pupils collect evidence (photos, notes, observations) and use a Badge Tracker for teacher sign-off as they make steady progress over time.

  • The challenge is purposefully rigorous: children are encouraged to plan, persevere, and reflect, rather than rush to finish.
  • Evidence can be shared with class teachers, including via Class DoJo, and tasks require sustained effort and thoughtful reflection.

How It Works

  1. Choose a Badge
Pupils select one of the four Character Compass badges to work on. Each badge has five tasks

  2. Plan & Participate
Tasks are designed to be completed gradually over time—children plan, take action, and reflect on what they learn from each experience.

  3. Collect Evidence
Pupils record photos, notes, or observations from adults/peers in their Badge Tracker and ask a teacher to sign off each task. Evidence can also be shared via Class DoJo

  4. Celebrate Achievement
When all five tasks are completed and signed off, pupils receive their badge in a celebration assembly and can move on to the next value.

Parents & Carers: How You Can Help

  • Talk with your child about which badge they are working on and help them plan when/how to complete tasks.
  • Encourage steady effort—these challenges are meant to take time and thoughtful commitment.
  • Share Evidence with teachers (photos, short notes) and, if helpful, upload via Class DoJo
