Year 6 Latest News
To say the past few weeks for Year 6 have been eventful is a complete understatement. Although revision and preparation for our “Week of Academic Celebration” have been a central focus, we have continued our investigative learning in as many fun ways as possible. Last week, Year 6 experienced our World War II Immersion Day. Dressed as evacuees, we learnt what life was like for children on the Home Front. We survived a number of air raid drills throughout the day, took a look at what food rations would be allowed per person per week and even baked a lovely authentic war-time bread pudding recipe. The children had an incredible time and thoroughly enjoyed their learning.
In addition to Immersion Day, we had the unique opportunity to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. Although the weather was not as cooperative as we would have hoped, the children created some special memories about an event that most of their parents had not yet experienced in their lifetimes. To share this experience as Windmill community made it all the more memorable.
This week, we have spent our post-assessment afternoons building toys powered by the electrical circuits we’ve investigated in science. These have been absolutely incredible and have impressed children and adults across the school. Perhaps someday, some of our pupils will be designing for Hamley’s!
