Year 5 and 6 were recently visited by Wonderdome - an astrodome that was inflated in the school hall.
The children met with Matt, the presenter, who explained how the dome stayed inflated and what to expect when going inside. The children sat on mats in the dark astrodome and the door was sealed.
Images and videos were projected onto the walls of the astrodome and the children watched whilst listening to Matt describe what they were seeing and share fascinating information about:
Stars, including the Sun
Satellites, including the Moon
The Milky Way and other galaxies
What it would be like to travel deeper into space
They also discussed star constellations, and how they helped humans navigate throughout history.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the amazing experience!
Some quotes from children:
"I thought it was very realistic - almost 3D."
"I loved learning about the different constellations."
"It felt like we were moving!"
"It felt like we were looking directly into space, something I have never done before."
"I learned a lot. I didn't know that looking through a telescope was like looking back in time at distant objects in space."
"The presenter was great. He knew a lot and could answer all of our questions."
