Year 3 The Human Body
In Year 3, Merlin Class have been hard at work in science learning about the muscular system and the skeletal system. The children discovered the scientific names of their muscles such as trapezius, pectorals, biceps, and triceps and most comical of all… gluteus maximus.
We then moved on to discovering the names of the bones in our body using our friend Bob to help us. We labelled Bob’s bones and then we went outside to use the knowledge that we had learnt to draw round our friends and then label the bodies with the scientific names. We learnt that our jaw is called mandible and that our patella is our knee cap.
Did you know that the smallest bone in our body is found in our ear? It’s called the stirrup.
We also found out what the largest bone in our body is called… the femur.
