Merlin Class 'How structures have influenced our lives?'

In Year 3 Merlin Class, we have been excited to learn about our new topic in the GLF curriculum, 'How structures have influenced our lives?'

The children have been working in small groups to learn about the three different types of rocks: Sedimentary, Igneous and metamorphic. The children have had a great time exploring and describing the features of the different types of rocks and learning about how they are formed. The children set up great experiments where they investigated which rocks were impermeable or permeable. They learnt 'wow' vocabulary and used these to show their understanding of their learning.

The children were great at being Geologists and loved using white vinegar to see which rocks dissolved.

Here is what the children said:
‘’The most exciting part was when we were checking whether the rock will dissolve. The rock that dissolved was the limestone. It bubbled.’’

‘’My favourite part was to see if the water went through the rock."
