Project Title: How Has Art Represented Aspects of Our Lives?
Focus Question: How Has Art Been Used in Popular Culture?
This term, Year 2 children will become artists and cultural historians, exploring the vibrant world of Pop Art and how it reflects British culture. They will study iconic figures and symbols, and create their own Pop Art-inspired prints.
What Will the Children Be Learning?
- Art: Study the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and explore printmaking techniques using Styrofoam, string, and other materials.
- History: Learn about Queen Elizabeth II and other iconic British figures, understanding their contributions to society.
- SMSC: Discuss British values, stereotypes, and what it means to be iconically British.
Project Outcome
Children will:
- Create a Pop Art print inspired by a British figure or cultural symbol.
- Develop skills in colour mixing, tone, and printing.
- Present their artwork in a class gallery, complete with captions and oral presentations.
Enrichment Opportunities
- Visit to a local gallery or virtual art exhibition.
- Visit from a local artist or secondary school art students.
- Create a school art gallery to showcase their final pieces.
Global Learning
Children will explore values and perceptions, learning about diverse British role models and breaking down stereotypes related to gender, race, and culture.
