Summer 1
Project Title: In What Way Is the World Around Us Diverse?
Focus Question: How Does an Animal’s Habitat Provide It with What It Needs to Live?
This term, Year 2 children will become scientists, geographers, historians, and artists as they explore the diversity of life on Earth. Inspired by the work of Sir David Attenborough, they will study life cycles, habitats, and food chains, and create their own natural history programme.
What Will the Children Be Learning?
- Science: Explore life cycles, basic needs for survival, and how animals depend on each other in food chains.
- Geography: Study habitats across the 7 continents, including local fieldwork and global comparisons.
- History: Learn about Sir David Attenborough and his contributions to conservation and education.
- Art: Revisit skills in texture, tone, and colour mixing to create realistic habitat backdrops.
Project Outcome
Children will:
- Create and present a natural history programme about an animal and its habitat.
- Use their scientific knowledge to explain how animals survive and thrive.
- Design and paint a large-scale backdrop to support their presentation.
Enrichment Opportunities
- Watch a David Attenborough documentary.
- Visit from a vet or zoologist.
- Explore local habitats and observe life cycles in action.
Global Learning
