Year 3 Tudors Drawing & Puppets

Year 3 Merlin Class have been focusing on Tudor portraiture as part of the wider curriculum.

The children were inspired by the incredible details displayed on the portraits of Elizabeth I and The Ambassadors. The children worked in pairs looking at the details of these Tudor style portraits and how objects and symbols were used in the paintings to convey information about the person.

This week, the children have been experimenting with different sketching pencils and learning how to tone and texture through their mark making. The children worked on skills of stippling, hatching and scribbling and used this technique to show how light and dark falls on their portraits.

The children have also enjoyed creating their own puppet shows where they explored how the Tudors lived. They used their understanding of how shadows were formed to present a show to the rest of the class.
