Reception Puffin Class have already had a busy couple of weeks since coming back after half term.
As part of our GLF wider curriculum, we have been learning about plastic. We read the story 'A Planet Full of Plastic' and used this text to spark discussions around plastic pollution and the importance of reusing and recycling plastic items. The children were very sad to hear about how plastic is polluting the sea and making many sea creatures unwell. We thought about plastic items and whether they always need to be made from plastic... Puffins decided that it's far better to use biodegradable materials if we can. For example, using wooden combs instead of plastic ones. We made our very own 'Plastic Recycling Bin' for the home corner, which has been used very well during the children's independent role-play.
We have began thinking about maps, exploring children's Atlas' and drawing our own maps of the classroom. It was lovely to see the children's enthusiasm and interest when looking at different maps of the world.
As always, we are blown away by the children's progress in reading and writing. Every child wrote a fantastic sentence about what they did over half term. We are working hard on our letter formations and sounding out words carefully to write them.
Discovery time is a popular part of the day in Puffin Class and the children have enjoyed leading their learning through being active, playing and exploring.
