Summer 2
How Are Cultures Expressed Around the World?
This term, Year 5 will explore the question:
“Countries are more similar than different. Support or challenge?”
Through this project, children will study the continents of North and South America, learning about their physical and human geography. They will compare these regions to the UK and explore how culture is expressed through art and design. The project culminates in creating a 3D visual map featuring typography inspired by the countries studied.
What Will Children Learn?
- Geography:
- Locate North and South America and identify countries and capital cities.
- Understand climate zones, biomes, vegetation belts, and time zones.
- Compare physical and human geography across regions.
- Art:
- Explore typography and how artists use it in design.
- Create a 3D visual map incorporating cultural and geographical features.
Key Experiences
